Two weeks post first ever 1st place finish in and RX CrossFit comp, mid-kilo cut for first ever USAW weightlifting meet (coming in April) and I decided to have “elective” surgery to fix an arrhythmia in my heart. Sometimes I turn blue when I WOD. Typically during rowing or burpees, or half-way through “Grace”. There aren’t mirrors in most CrossFit boxes, so I had no idea this was happening, but I guess it scared people. (Not in the “I look zombie-like” way, but in the “don’t die, breathe Karli!” way) A few tests later I found out I have a very very strong and healthy heart that could at any moment possibly maybe go tachycardic and then maybe suddenly die. The chances are super slim, but the doctor said he highly recommends patients with this arrhythmia NOT to do competitive sports (did I mention I just placed first in an RX crossfit comp?…my brain is on regionals and more competitions!) so to put my mind at ease, I decided to have the surgery… get it done with and never think about this ever again.

Day 2 post surgery, I feel fine! The biggest struggle is not lifting anything more than 10lbs….I don’t even know what 10lbs looks like?! I guess its about my purse…or that grocery basket full of healthy foods that made my legs hurt when I carried it through the store, because I’m an idiot. Five more days until I can lift again! Thats right, only 1 week away from the gym. See? It’s good news! Its a forced rest week. I’m glad it’s over and can’t wait to get back to training
